Knuckle Cross

Hardened steel cross-piece (spider) for the Rush SR steering column universal joint. This component sits inside the coupling knuckle and provides the pivot mechanism that allows the steering column to articulate at an angle while transmitting steering torque.

The universal joint design in the Rush SR steering column allows the shaft to change angle as needed for packaging and driver positioning. The knuckle cross is the wear component inside this joint—the four bearing surfaces ride against the knuckle housing. Over time, these surfaces can develop wear grooves or play, which translates to looseness in the steering wheel.

Replace if you feel play or notchiness when turning the wheel with the engine off. Inspect during steering column service—if the cross shows any visible wear grooves or pitting on the bearing surfaces, replace it along with the coupling knuckle to restore tight steering feel. Requires proper tooling and press-fit installation.
