Steering Rack Shaft

Rack shaft for the Rush SR steering rack assembly. This is the main shaft that slides through the rack body, converting the pinion's rotational input into the linear motion that steers the front wheels.
The rack shaft has gear teeth machined into one section that mesh with the pinion gear. The shaft rides on bushings inside the rack body and exits through wiper seals at each end. The rack arms connect to the threaded ends of the shaft.
The rack shaft should be replaced if the gear teeth are worn, the shaft is bent, or the sliding surfaces are scored. A damaged rack shaft causes vague steering, binding, or uneven steering effort.
This is an OEM replacement part used in steering rack rebuilds.
